Puppy Health Certificate Question….?

Can a breeder sell a puppy without a health certificate in the state of Florida and then say that if you want a health certificate you have to pay an additional amount of money? Please help!

health certificates are only required if you are going to transport the puppy internationally or on a public carrier such as an airline.

and yes, they can charge you for it, because they have to pay the veterinarian.

Edit: If you want the Health Certificate as an assurance that the puppy is in good health when you buy it, then it’s just an additional service. If you are buying from a reputable breeder, then the assurance of health is built in.

    Are you talking about a health guarantee? If so, no, a breeder doesn’t have to supply a health guarantee, but a reputable breeder always does. It’s up to YOU to take the pup to the vet’s, for a well pup check, usually within 72 hours as stated in the contract. If you don’t do this, the breeder won’t honor the health guarantee. I lived in California, now Northern Idaho, so I don’t know what the laws are in Florida.

    If you are talking about a health certificate, to transport a pup across state lines or on an airline, the breeder will obviously have to obtain it. Some breeders will charge you the price of the vet visit to obtain the certificate.
