How many times in a year do you take your dog to the vet?
March 10th, 2010 | by admin |Also, what symptoms suggest taking your dog to the vet.
As little as possible. I don’t go unless there is a problem. I don’t believe in overvaccinating or boosters. The dogs go for their rabies shots, and unless another problem crops up, I don’t go. Vets are for sick dogs.

With this one, just once a year for yearly exam seems to be doing just fine.
My other dogs were more than once. Aside from the yearly exams, they might have needed antibiotics for something, had an injury, etc. Maybe twice a year for them. The vet visits do increase as the dog gets older. It was even more often for my teenage dogs, until that final visit:(

We tend to take them when they are due their vaccinations. However we will take them if they have something persistently wrong such as always being sick. We don’t take them unless we have to!!! and their perfectly healthy!!!

According to the dog it can range anywhere from one to 7 times a year.
I have dogs that are elderly who need to see the vet more often.
I take my dogs to the vet when they do not eat for 2 days. Have diarrhea for more than 2 days. Are vomiting for more than one day.
Have a hacking cough for more than one day. Trouble breathing means right away. Anything that is out of the norm, I consult my vet.

She goes once a year for vaccinations unless something goes wrong. The best measure for when to take your dog is when its behavior and/or eating habits change very noticeably.
Dogs often eat things they shouldn’t and throw up or have occasional diarrhea, but the way to tell if you have a problem is if they refuse food and or water and act lethargic. That’s the sign something is definitely in need of attention. Of course, any physical injury should be seen as well.

My dog has to go twice a year because of the medicine that she is on can affect her liver- plus checkups and vaccinations.
You should take your dog to the vet anytime that the dog is acting strangely, like severe panting, limping, puking a lot, etc.

As often as they need to go. I take them for shots, as needed, a symptom that might cause me to take my dog to the vet would be panting. (panting is a sign of pain) A reason would be a change in behavior, usually something going on with the dog I am not aware of. With my dogs, something to do with walking issues. I have had several dogs with arthritis, spine, and hip issues. I had one dog who would slip a disc in his back, so a trip to the chiropractor might be necessary. When my dogs reach age 10, I automatically do an x-ray to see if there are any issues they are dealing with that I may not be aware of. This is a lesson I learned the hard way. I would take my dogs to the vet if they were bleeding, not that that has happened, but as an example. I tell my vet I have earned my right to be paranoid, so basically I would take them if I thought they needed care, whether I had an appointment or not.
