what are the symptoms if my dog has been bitten by a snake?
Can a dog have pnuemonia?
He has had the shakes and tender to touch.
Appetite declined.
We did kill a copperhead in the yard this week ( we live in the country)..
i hear dogs cannot catch ailments from owners..
I have been sick with bronchitis and the flu.
help? input?
I don’t know what country you are living in, but if my dog were bitten by a snake I would be having him off to the vet quick smart. Copperheads as with tiger snakes and many other snakes are injectors and depend on being able to envenomate by injection so mostly curious puppies who get scratched on the nose get away with a little sickness and that’s all. Not so lucky bigger dogs who go in boots and all and cop the lot !. if your dog has other problems yes they can get pneumonia and such just as people can and why would you let your mate suffer any longer if he is ill. He needs a doctor, just like you would. Sounds like snake bite to me

yes dogs can get pneumonia. no they cannot catch the cold or flu from people.
if your dog is sick and you suspect a snake bite, you need to go to the vet. dogs can die from snake bites.

You need to get your dog to a vet.
He can’t catch cold or pnuemonia from you, but he can get sick on his own.
If he has been bitten by a snake, there should be bite marks and red swelling around them – look him over for that.
In any case, what are you waiting for? Get that poor dog to a vet to be looked at.

I do believe that dogs can catch colds and such from owners.
He may have been bitten by a snake. First of all, do you see any bite marks on his body?
If he was bitten, read this:
If he is a bigger dog, he may have not been as badly infected.
I also heard that while copperheads cause pain, their bites are usually not fatal in dogs.
If you are sure he’s been bitten, take him to the vet.
Good Luck!

I live in the country also , my dachshund was bitten by a copperhead 2 years ago.We killed it also, it was in our front yard which is fenced in and he went after it like he does anything else that comes in the yard.He got bit on the side of his mouth , you can see the two fang marks the snake left , my dog holler and was shaking ,he was in alot of pain , this was at night and the vet office was close , so i called the vet at home and he told me to give him asprin and benadrly and bring him in the morning. The vet gave him a couple of shots for pain and swelling and gave me medicine to take home .My doxie did not eat for three days , his face was swollen for about a week. on the fourth day i got him to eat hotdogs , he wasn’t himself for about two weeks all he wanted to do was lay down , the vet says the snake release venom and it cause severe pain and swelling in dogs as it does humans. As soon as my dog was better a week later a black rat snake got in the yard and he went after it , but we were able to get to it before the dog did , i guess being bit by the copperhead didn’t teach the dog a lesson , once he was better he went back to going after snakes again.I try to check the yard for snakes before i let my dogs out , but there’s always the chance one will come in after i check the yard I don’t know where you live but snakes are hibernating now where we are in missouri. Take your dog to a vet soon as possible ,make sure he’s okay , they won’t die from a copperhead bite , but they will be in pain and uncomfortable for a few weeks.
