What medical problems arise from puppies born from a 10 month old dog?

March 10th, 2010 | by admin |

My 10 month old dog might be pregnant. The father would be my 6 month old dog. What problems if any, could arise from such young parents. And no I won’t get my dog an abortion. Its againts my religion. Plus i want one of her puppies. Dont give me rude answers. Theyll fall on deaf ears. The female is 35 pounds and the male Is 60 pounds
theres nothin wrong with mutts. ill be charging 400 for each just to make sure they go to GREAT homes

This is very serious. You should worry more about your dogs life then those puppies. If you cant afford a vet at least call around and ask questions.

Well the mother dog may die, and all the puppies could die as well. Best to avoid both of these worst-case-scenarios by getting an emergency spay. And since you don’t even mention what religion you belong to, I know that’s bs.

The pups could be too big for the female to safely deliver and she could need a c-section.

It’s sad though that you are mating such young pups.

First off, VERY poor planning your part.
If you really wanted to breed, which I’m not saying is acceptable, you should have waited until they were both 1 year old.
But, whatever, it’s falling on deaf ears.
Because your dog is so young, the following things could happen:
    The Pups:
    Miscarriage
    Still Birth
Physical Defects (unusable limbs, retardation, etc.)
    The mother:
    Internal Bleeding
Labor Problems (including having some, not having others, resulting in emergency c-section)
Extended Labor (lasting 12 hours or more)
    Death (yes, this is possible)

Congrats, you’re an idiot and just risked your dog’s life as well as endangering those of the puppies.

Oh, and by the way, Catholics don’t care about aborting puppies. Only humans apply there, but good try.

You need to take the dogs to the vet…

Anytime you have two dogs that are not fixed and of opposite gender, they should be fixed. Your dog can actually die from this pregnancy, not to mention there’s a good chance she will not accept her puppies. It is completely irresponsible to have put your dog in a situation that can cause death for the mother, not to mention the puppies may not even be accepted by her.

You need to take the mother to the vet. If the doctor confirms she is pregnant, you need to ask about the risks of death during birth because of her age. If he confirms there is a high chance, you would need to abort them or risk the mother dying.

The b*tch is still growing – having pups will leach valuable nutrients from her body and they won’t be adequately nourished. The real shame of that is that the effects may not be noticeable at first but the long term effects will be there with early onset arthritis, lack of proper mental development and possible early death.

You risk a c-section or perhaps death of the dam or one or more of the pups by breeding her to a dog who is 60 lbs NOW but will be larger at maturity.

You risk her being a poor mother… inability to adequately care for the pups.

You risk being sued for any genetic medical issues the pups may have under the Puppy Lemon Law… this risk is compounded because the parents are much too young to be health tested.

And what religion is your dog? I didn’t know canines had superstitions and cults.

They don’t have religion but do have biology.
A b i t c h pregnant at 10 months by a much larger male is at high risk of pregnancy complications and even death. Her own growth may be stunted and she may have a shortened lifespan.

Problems with the puppies could be from poor nutrition by being born to a still growing mother as well as all the potential genetic diseases the parents can’t have been screened against.

nice job, they are young and different breeds… if those mutts dont die on your hands, they’ll die in shelter. Maybe you should rethink your religion or buy a pound of additional brains, and couple of ears lol

The problems would be more to the safety and health of your 10-month old b**** than the puppies. She could die during labor or reject the puppies. You’ll need to have her x-rayed about Day 49 or 50 to count skeletons so you know how many to expect and to compare the fetal sizes to her pelvis. With such a difference in sizes between the two parents, and the stud isn’t yet finished growing, there is a very good chance she will require a c-section to deliver the litter. If the vet sees a potential problem, please schedule a c-section instead of trying to make her deliver naturally. After straining to produce a stuck puppy she will be in a greatly weakened state and will be less likely to survive surgery.

The really sad part is that you have no idea is either dog is genetically or physically sound enough to be reproducing its genes. You’ve allowed babies to have babies. That rarely goes well.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again if your dogs actually exist since you KEEP CHANGING YOUR STORY, get your bitch spayed.

She JUST MATED you don’t even know if she’s pregnant so at this point it is simply a SPAY. And what religion has dogma again population control of ANIMALS?

You can’t even afford a vet to quote you. Rather obvious your dog’s health is of no real concern. What happens when a pup gets stuck in thee birth canal? An emergency visit will cost a hell of a lot more than a simple spay surgery.
