Mystery dog illness, need help identifying problem!?
March 12th, 2010 | by admin |My dog has gotten ill and its concerned me greatly, although i cannot find a clue as to what it may be. He has a red "rash like" discoloration around his genitle area, he has most all of his lymph nodes swollen, and a fever. He is a Shih – Tzu, and part Lahpsa Ahpsa. He has recently been to the groomers if that helps in any way. Please feel free to ask for any other required details. Your help and time is greatly appreciated, thank you.
You may want to take him to the vet and get a professional evaluation instead of guessing what could be wrong. All the symptoms sound serious enough that it could be something serious so the vet is the best source of information.

the rash could be a flea allergy, even one bite can effect those that are really sensitive to them. the swollen lymph nodes though..well you need to take your pup to a vet. swollen lymph nodes are indicative of so many things. take your pup to the vet.

You need to see a vet for this. They may have done something at the groomers that could have caused it,too. They may have used something that caused it.

It could be anything from an allergic reaction to something to an infection. I’d play it safe and take him to the vet for proper diagnosis and treatmemt. hope he’s better soon.

Hi: the little guy needs a Vet visit. The genitile area could be yeast but the swollen nodes and fever makes me think he could have sepsis. This can be very dangerous and he would need antibiotics right away..
Sorry, I just can’t be of more help… He needs the vet

Groomer is usually has not enough knowledge about such situations. Best bet is to bring your dog to a vet for a checkup. Swollen lymph nodes and fever could mean bacterial or fungal infection, for the worse thing, could be cancerous. So, hurry him to the vet, please…

This sounds like those Lymph Nodes needs to be drained.
My Mom had 2 Chihuahuas and the male had this problem. My Mom took him to a Vet and he drained them saying this needed to be done from time to time.
In your dog’s case, a Vet would need to see it but if you noticed your dog having the problem after being at the groomer’s, my feeling is, the tool was used on some other animal with a skin condition and the shaver had unclean parts.
It’s very important that a professional properly disinfect all machine type parts that come in contact with skin on other pets being groomed.
I’m sure your dog can be given an antibiotic.
hope he’s better.

Is it warm where you are? Could the dog have come into contact with a tick? Without actually seeing the rash I’m just making guesses based on the collection of symptoms, but I would get the dog to the vet and have him checked for Lyme Disease or at least have the vet look the dog over to tell you if he should have a test done.

Are there any tiny water blisters along with red bumps that haven’t yet formed blisters? They look similar to tiny chicken pox?
If so, it is canine herpes. It is usually found on genitals and tummy. He could have caught them from the groomers equipment.
