How do I know if my Dog has allergies?

March 12th, 2010 | by admin |

My dog has been snorting the last few days. Kinda like hyperventilating. He also sneezes the entire time we are going for his walks. He’s never had this problem before. Is the snorting/breathing an allergy symptom? What other symptoms could be signs of allergies?

You should let the vet diagnose your pet. It does sound like allergies. Dogs can be allergic to things just like us.

He might have a cold. Allergy symptoms are similar to people allergies, itchy watery eyes, runny nose, itchy ears and ears that have brown stuff in them. Skin allergies can run from a rash, to the hair falling out, or the dog pulling the hair out, because it sticks to the irritated skin. "Hot spots" are signs of allergy, and very painful for your dog. People food is the worst for dogs, many develop allergies because of this practice. A diet that doesn’t contain wheat and grain fillers is better for allergic dogs, a Lamb/Rice blend works well, our dog eats a Fish/Potatoe blend, and does quite well, we shave her stomach in the summer time though to reduce the heat, and scratching she does. Omega Fish Oil, really good for the skin, and a nice coat.

look for any discharge from eyes, nose [goopy, crusty].allergies in pets sometimes show up with aging ,new environment .any vet would be able to check it out and prescribe appropriate meds and advice .sounds like "hayfever",basic upper respiratory allergies.also, is he /she better for staying indoors ?best o luck and thanks for being a responsible "parent "!
